MTool - Monitoring Tool  For Multiplatform Distributed Systems

MTool is platform independent monitoring tool. It can be run as standalone application or as applet from browser.
It has three parts:

  1. Daemon

    2. Collects data about computer. This is done directly from kernel or from /proc filesystem. This part is platform dependent and is written in C. At the moment there are daemons available  for Linux, Sun and some work has been done for HP workstations.
  2. Server (middletier)

    3. This part of MTool is written entirely in Java, so you can run it wherever you want. If you want to run it from browser, then server must be run on the same computer that runs httpd, because applets can only connect to the server from which they come from.
  3. MTool client

    4. This part is also entirely written in Java. It can be run as application or as applet from your favorite browser. It displays information about monitored computers. You are free to add or remove computers, which should be monitored from client.
